Hi Dan,
Can you help me with the product that you are trying to remove (Home/Central/on-premise?), and also if you have any reference ticket opened with our Support please PM the details so that I can have better insight. ^Gm

Central. We had a ticket open but we had issues with our account manager.
He gave use the "everything central" bat file but as mentioned that didnt work fully.

I am currently working with support on this as well. I recently migrated from UTM on-premise to Central and had this issue a couple of times. I have had a couple that I forgot to remove the agent before removing the UTM and it has been a pain. Sophos should make a removal tool to completely wipe all Sophos remnants. Would save a lot of hassle.

I re-image computers when I can't disable tamper protection to get a good uninstall.
thumb_up thumb_down
I would re image but this is a critical pc that cant be taken offline for more than the time a reboot takes. Literally the worst pc for this to have happened on.
thumb_up thumb_down
You have no recourse AFAIK. Move the critical operations to a VM and re image. I've already spent plenty of time trying to figure that out. What you want doesn't exist. Good luck!

Yeah I'm starting to think thats the only way, Sophos support has been incredibly lacking with regard to this issue.
I was hoping someone had managed to find a way.

I know for Trend Micro I've had to go into safe mode and change a registry key before I could uninstall it, as it wasn't accepting the password. No idea if this may be a similar issue?
thumb_up thumb_down
No, that won't work. I've been using Sophos products for a long time. This one, you're done. Any time spent not doing what you have to do to re-image the machine is time wasted on a red herring. :( Sorry.

Also, I don't think security wise a removal tool is a wise idea. Don't give hackers the tools they need to simply remove your protections with a small download tool. Product like McAfee have them because they are often bundled with PC installs direct from manufacturer and without them, people would rage. For proper security, you shouldn't be able to run a quick command line EXE to just remove it all. I think Sophos could do a better job at explaining that to PC administrators new to their platform, though.

From my experience with Sophos, it's is like a bad virus to get rid of.
First stop , put as manual, and remove all Sophos services
Second kill all Sophos processes
Third uninstall all Sophos products
Has always worked for me (99 percent of the time)

Have you tried an app like total uninstall?https://www.martau.com/uninstaller-download.php
thumb_up thumb_down
How about using an uninstall tool like Revo Uninstaller?
That should be able to find all the registry entries, files and folders and remove the product cleanly.

I don't think any of you have tried these solutions on the latest Sophos Advanced Endpoint Security.

That is why we are asking... and suggesting.

I can tell you - none of those are likely to work. From personal, recent experience and I've been a Sophos partner for years. There is no simple way to remove the software if you didn't or cannot disable tamper protection. Those products don't work. The methods laid out here don't work. Be prepared if you're going to start using the Sophos product lines. Easy removal is the enemy of the purpose of the product.
thumb_up thumb_down
Tamper protection wasn't mentioned so I assumed wasn't the issue. I have not had any issues removing Sophos from my environment, but there is a first time for everything.

Have you tried this?......
Go up to Central and grab the latest full PC protection package/installer.
Try installing that onto the machine to see if it is able to install successfully and clean up the existing Sophos install with a nice new fresh one.
If that works, then try this:
- disable tamper protection
- DONT stop any sophos services
- use control panel progs/features to remove each sophos component one by one starting from top to bottom.

also - if you cant get to the point where tamper protection disables cleanly......or you cant get a clean install over the top.....try manual disablement of tamper protection using this method...

Those methods from unison might work

Tamper protection is off via the central console so thats not the issue.
thumb_up thumb_down
Sutibun That tool you linked worked a charm, uninstalled the lot! Thank you so much! Never using Sophos again haha.
thumb_up thumb_down
I'm surprised. I'd let my defeats kill my optimism.

FYI - unfortunately what shows up in Central is not always an accurate reflection of what is happening on the endpoint (i.e. just because Central says tamper protection is disabled, does not actually mean the endpoint thinks tamper protection is disabled).
The Sophos Central solutions do have a lot of problems (we use a lot of them, so suffer from a lot of them!).....if you end up using some other centralised security platform that you find works much better......pls post about it :)

Webroot mate, we've been testing it for a lil over a week and its been kicking the hell out of Sophos.
Quicker install, easier uninstall(done remotely from the console to boot), lighter client and so far better threat detection.
I'll clarify that last point, we have 5 "fake" viruses that we use to test AV software, Sophos let 3 of them through, Webroot caught them all.
thumb_up thumb_down
2yrs time when renewals arrive.....looks like i might be looking at webroot over sophos for security ;)
What good is it testing with 'fake' viruses haha......go on, be a cowboy and jump on some dark web/dodgy sites, click on some of those dodgy links/attachments that have been blocked recently and really test it out hahaha ;P (joking!!! dont do that! haha)
thumb_up thumb_down
Haha I'm sure the MD would love me after I brick half the network for hitting up the wrong side of tor :P

Hi Kwinza,
As already mentioned in this thread I would suggest you try the following KBA for removing the tamper protection of the Sophos endpoints https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/124377, Post which you can using the command line options/Batch file to remove the Sophos endpoint as mentioned here https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/122126. ^Gm
